Can you believe that currently it has been built a hard drive capable of storing all data in the whole world, or 1 Yottabytes!

The NSA (National Security Agency) is building an indoor area of 92,903 m2 as a hard drive storage at a cost of about 2 billion dollars. The plan, this place will be able to store data at 1 Yottabytes predicted will be realized in 2015.

Well, you must as well ask what is a 'Yottabytes'? How much does a Yottabyte hard drive will be? Here's the picture ...

– 1.000 Gigabytes (GB) = 1 Terabytes (TB)

– 1.000 Terabytes (TB) = 1 Petabytes (PB)

– 1.000 Petabytes (PB) = 1 Exabytes

– 1.000 Exabytes = 1 Zettabyte

– 1.000 Zettabytes = 1 Yottabytes

Well, you already have a picture by now about the capacity of 1 Yottabytes. One thing amazing is the hard drive might be able to store all data that exist in this world. That 'enormous' hard drive surely will make everyone think how many hard drives are required to achieve that capacity. If using the hard drive capacity of 1 TB per piece, if calculated will be using about 1,000 billion of such hard drives.

But, most likely the NSA will be using a much larger hard drive, given the NSA always use the most advanced technology that is usually not being publicly acknowledged yet, as they could use a hard drive with a capacity of 25-100 TB per piece. Who knows?  (ms)
