SIX January, a movie titled 'Khalifah' [The Caliph] aired in cinemas across Indonesia. In the movie posters depict veiled female figure accompanied by two men wearing Muslim clothes, makes some people think that this is a da'wah movie.

As a director and screenwriter of the movie, Nurman Hakim dismissed. For him, the Khalifah is not propaganda film. "Khalifah is not a da'wah movie and I'm not a preacher. I am just simply giving good discourse and reflection on Islam from the eyes of women," said Nurman in Epicentrum.

According to Nurman, you can preach in mosques.  Then, the characters give a lecture at the mosque as well. But, he did not want to be like that. He wanted to convey the message verbally, interesting and not patronizing way through the movie. Khalifah tells about a female named Khalifah (Marsha Timothy)

For the sake of ease the burden on parents, she accepted Rasyid's proposal (Indra Herlambang). They married, unfortunately Khalifah didn't know about Rasyid deeply.

He only knew her husband was a seller of Arabic products. Without knowing if Rasyid embraced hard-line doctrine. As a very devoted wife to husband, Khalifah meets her husband's desire to wear a hijaab and even veiled.

According to Nurman, he tooked Islam themes because Islam is often highlighted from within and outside the country. "Islam has always associated with terrorists. This should be straightened. Islam is peace and tolerance religion," said the man who graduated from this boarding school. Nurman added, this movie is not intended to discredit particular groups.
