Hollywood seems to be a 'harbor' for the Hindi movie legend, Amitabh Bachchan, as he carves his career as an actor in the movie world...
Amitabh BachchanThrough a movie adaptation of The Great Gatsby, played also by Leonardo Di Caprio, he will be playing as Meyer Wolfsheim. So said the producer of Warner Brothers.
As quoted from the BBC, Bachchan will act as a Jewish man who was described as a gambler in the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald.
The movie that costs 126 billion dollars is directed by Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge) and has started taking pictures in Australia.
The Great Gatsby is a story of upper class U.S. society in the 1920's, which was the golden era of wealth prior to the occurrence of The Great Depression.
"Personally I'm interested that one of the world's wide screen legend Amitabh Bachchan has come to join us," said Luhrmann.
Amitabh Bachchan"For many years, Amitabh's movies have produced deep impressions on my life and work. The movie, Sholay is my first introduction to Hindi movies," Luhrmann added to the Indo-Asian Service in an interview via electronic mail.
Luhrmann has talked about his love of Hindi movies in the past, and using a popular Hindi song in his musical movie Moulin Rouge in 2001.
Bachchan has played in more than 180 Hindi movies over a period of 40 years. He has survived to become the most popular Hindi actor.
And, recently he hs returned as a celebrity guide in Kaun Banega Crorepati, the Hindi version of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire quiz, one of the most watched shows on Hindi television.
He was also elected as the biggest star in the Millennium in the BBC poll conducted in 1999.
The role of Bachchan in several movies each year and last seen in the movie Teen Patti (Three Cards) in January, where he played with veteran British actor Ben Kingsley, has also been popular. (ms)
