However, experts at the University Hospital of Leicester NHS Trust, UK have mentioned a symptom of leg weakness. In addition, a vision problem is also a strong indicator that you may be having a stroke.

A survey of 1,300 people throughout Leicestershire in England has found that only 56 percent thought that the leg weakness is a symptom of a stroke. While 44 percent considered the problem of vision is just a warning symptom.

Professor Ross Naylor said, it is very important that people realize that the leg weakness and loss of vision are also signs of stroke. It was feared that, many people may not realize it was happening on their own.

"Therefore, it is important to realize all five of these markers. Do not think it should have all the symptoms at the same time to have a stroke. You may be having a stroke with only one of the five symptoms. However, it is more likely happen by having one or two symptoms at the same time," he explained.

Stroke occurs when the blood supply to the brain is disrupted or disconnected, either by blood clots (ischemic stroke) or ruptures of blood vessels (hemorrhagic stroke). About 8 out of 10 strokes are caused by blood clots.  (ms)
