Coffee has more antioxidants than most fruits and vegetables...
Recently, a study has revealed the ability of coffee to reduce the risk of endometrial cancer in women. However, the reduced risk of the cancer arise only in those who consumed coffee in the long term, and in moderate to high levels of consumption.
Edward Giovannucci, MD. ScD, lead researcher and professor of nutritional epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health, believes that coffee is a protective substance of cancers, particularly the cancers associated with the imbalance of body weight, or the inability of the body to process estrogen and insulin.
As quoted from Softpedia, on Thursday (11/24/2011), throughout the study period, the research team had identified 672 cases of endometrial cancer.
An expert from Harvard stated, "Through its resulting effect on insulin, coffee has shown its worth as a protection from diabetes. Thus, we hypothesize to get a similar reduction in some types of cancer."
The team has found out that drinking four cups of coffee a day leads to reduced risk of endometrial cancer in women up to 255 percent. Even more surprising was, they also found a similar efficacy to decaffeinated coffee.
"Coffee has long been associated with smoking, and if you are drinking coffee and smoking, the positive effects of coffee remains greater than the negative effects of smoking. Although however, laboratory tests shown that coffee does have generally higher antioxidants than fruit and vegetables," Giovannucci said. **MS (ms)
