Game developer Gearbox Software has recently announced the new game from the well-known game series Duke Nukem, the Duke Nukem Forever, that will be released on May 3, 2011, for the North American region and on May 6, 2011, for other regions worldwide.

Duke Nukem Forever is a first person shooter game (FPS) that will be released for Microsoft Windows platforms, the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. Currently, Duke Nukem Forever, which is the sequel to the game Duke Nukem 3D in 1996, is in the final stage of development by the developer Gearbox Software. Meant to be an innovative game, the development of this game has undergone quite a long journey since it was first anounced in 1997.

The confirmation of the release date of the mature-rated game came from Gearbox Software CEO, Randy Pitchford, to Game Informer. Leader of the publisher 2K Games, Christoph Hartmann, has also confirmed this.

The North American release date will almost be exactly two years from the last development announced, and also the time when 3D Realms signed off from the Duke Nukem Forever development team, that had become a problem and made the existence of this game uncleared. But in 2010, Gearbox Software acquired the Duke Nukem series from Texas studio and later, 3D Realms and Take-Two had eventually solve their problems outside the court. **MS
