Doc. of Odong-odong Travelers

They used to be underestimated judging from their name Odong-odong [a cart with rented rocking horses or vehichles for kids]. However, witnessing their existence in exploring various tourism sites across the country, they finally won praise.

Odong-Odong Travellers (OOT) is founded by five young people called Amri, Kristian, Dody Mulyana, Nopi and Aris when they traveled to Dieng high land in Wonosobo, Central Java, last 2009.

However, the community was officially founded when this community visited Mt. Bromo National Park in last June 2009. That time, the community unfurled a yellow banner of Odong-Odong Travelers with a picture of rickshaw.

"That was when OOT officially founded," Lathiful Amri the coordinator of OOT explained when met by TNOL yesterday.

As time went by, number of members increased. Today, Odong-Odong Travellers membered of entrepreneurs, lawyers, doctors, employers and students reached 400 people. However, the active members are only about 90 people.

This community has visited tens of tourist sites in Java and Sumatra, from beaches to deep sea as well as high mountain. Some of these places are Anyer beach, Bogor Museum of Inscription, Mt. Pangrango, Mt. Bromo, Mt. Kelud and Bangka Belitung islands.

This community is not a travel agent because the prioritize togetherness. Destination sites also determined together through a discussion. They discuss on the next destination place, date of departure, cost of traveling, and who will be the treasury. And, together, they will face any obstacle during their trip.

Moreover, Amri continued, as well as other backpacker communities, OOT also did not take any fee. If there's money left after the trip, they will share the money equally. .

Related to the name 'Odong-Odong', Joedy Atnowo, the vice coordinator of Odong-Odong Travelers said, because Odong-Odong is the most awaited games by children.

Secondly, Odong-Odong is a cheap games (because you can enjoy it by only IDR 1,000) and affordable by parents. Thirdly, Odong-Odong owners will smile as he sees children's happy face.

"Odong-Odong is an addictive game for children," he said.

The philosophy then implemented in this community. They can travel together, share the cost, walk together, and be happy together. That's why members of Odong-Odong Travellers always waiting for traveling and call it as PMS (Pre Melancong [travel] Syndrom) and they always addicted for it.
